Timber decking can be great. Its looks lovely and it’s easy to install. But, there are downsides as it can become slippy and needs regular maintenance. It usually becomes slippy because mildew or algae starts to grow on it. There are some things which can be done to help to prevent this:
- Position the decking in a sunny location not in a damp, dark or shaded area.
- Provide falls to the decking to allow any water to quickly fall from the boards.
- Regularly clean and protect the timber. A very dilute bleach wash can be used to remove algae, but remember to wash it off.
